Meet Galt

I want to help you clarify your spending habits and feel confident about your financial decisions. We'll discuss your budget journey in a relaxed, non-judgmental, and confidential space to make sure you’re getting the most possible out of YNAB.

Finances and budgeting can be stressful. Although it has a steep learning curve, YNAB gives you the system you need to organize your finances, and then provides you the information you need to make good spending and saving decisions while working towards your financial goals.

My main client groups are (1) users who need technical assistance or software support, (2) people looking to establish a foundational financial plan for themselves, and (3) individuals or couples who want to take control of their situation and build a budget that will give them confidence in their finances moving forward.

While I package these out separately, you might fall into more than one of these groups - and that is perfectly okay. Building a dependable budget habit is a journey and I'm here to help you find your way.

My Mission

I combine 12 years of personal YNAB and budgeting experience with 14 years of customer service experience to work with you to navigate YNAB, grasp the personal finance basics, and develop a budget plan that meets you where you are.

I started budgeting on a spreadsheet at 19 years old. By the time I finished college and moved in with my girlfriend (now wife), I had found YNAB. As a computer nerd and redditor (shoutout to /r/ynab and /r/personalfinance), I became an adept YNAB user, shared it and taught it to friends and family, and eventually participated in one of the first cohorts of YNAB-certified coaches.

As soon as college ended for my wife and I, as a team we developed a coherent budget plan, worked together on establishing our shared financial priorities, and made some sacrifices. With YNAB giving us financial clarity and control, we’ve been able to save for retirement, buy a house, and go on vacations, all without building credit card debt.

My Approach

What sessions look like

Via Zoom, clients screenshare YNAB with me as we answer your questions and I guide you through the software and provide advice. I allow and encourage you to record the session, so you have it at your disposal to look back on and review.

What I won’t Do

I won’t tell you what to spend money on – I focus on the YNAB software, YNAB philosophy, personal finance, and teaching you how to use the software to suit your own unique circumstances, with the goal of crafting advice to your personal situation. I don’t require signing up for multiple sessions. I will not advise on picking stocks or specific investments beyond well-known index or target-date funds.

personal blurb

I’m 31 and I live in Sacramento, CA with my wife and son, and work full-time for the State of California in the California Department of Public Health. I’m a UCLA alumni. I do this coaching on the side, after work and on weekends. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly. And a cat person (I have 2), but dogs are cool.

I can be found PC gaming, playing online chess, or browsing the YNAB subreddit. I enjoy concerts, plays, and going wine and beer tasting with my wife. We also like to travel and visit National Parks - all the nature/landscape photos on this website are from our trips!
